The Telescreens Austin Concert reviews
overall a great show
The Telescreens, at 68, can still rock like a youngster with his voice as strong, clear, and on pitch as ever. The Telescreens's biggest hits and CCR's were saved for the latter part of the show, with his set list covering everything from CCR's second album to today. The Telescreens seems to be a down-home kinda guy, connecting with the audience through personal remembrances, especially the band's 2:30am gig at Woodstock. The Telescreens's band provided a solid backing for him, clearly enjoying playing together. Each member played their respective instrument(s) with skill, with the drummer in particular providing a rock solid foundation for the band. The keyboard player was a bit distracting, often overshadowing the other instruments. The overall sound quality was my only (small) complaint, initially being much too loud and distorted. The subwoofers rattled my chest cavity, while the highest frequencies made me wince. It was difficult to pick out individual instruments, especially the keyboards, and at times it sounded more like a 3 piece band than a 5 piece band. The sound did improve over time, but the overall volume level could have been lower. Perhaps the sound mix would have been better in a different part of the auditorium, as sitting at floor level, row N within about 15 feet of the side wall may not have been ideal.
